Storytelling with Margaret Hubbard
Leaning forward to get closer to the story is as natural an act as breathing
Margaret Hubbard: A Scottish Storyteller
There’s nothing quite like a good story. Whether it’s a tall tale, a funny fable, a horrible history or something in between.
Stories connect you to your inner child, the part of you that feeds on imagination, wonder and delight. In our work-a-day lives, it’s not always easy to give in to those feelings, to yield the time and control to unwind in a good old fashioned yarn.
Which makes it all the more magical when it happens.
Why would I invent stories? Scotland's history is a treasure trove.

Mercat Tours
I worked for Mercat Tours as a storyteller on the Royal Mile of Edinburgh from 2005 till 2016, and continue to lead groups of both adults and school children to the battlefields of the Western Front, Normandy and Berlin for Mercat Tours International.

Castle House Museum
Christmas storytelling at the Castle House Museum. The best stories are the real ones. Drawn from history they are not dry facts, but the stories of what happened and the experiences of the people who lived these events. Their experiences touch us across the centuries. When I put on the costume I become part of their world.

I can’t recommend her enough!
I was expecting dry history class style lectures, but that was not at all the case. Margaret’s lectures were certainly full of information - she has encyclopaedic knowledge of her subjects - but she imparts it with a palpable and contagious love of place.

An enthralling speaker
“Margaret has joined some of our Dunoon Macular Support Group telephone calls to talk to our Group members about such diverse topics as ‘From Pilgrims to Polaris’ and ‘The History of Shakespeare’. Margaret’s clear, focused presentation (which is not easy when talking to a diverse group over the phone) and her amazing knowledge of her subjects has been inspirational and our Group members feel very fortunate to have had her as a speaker on their calls. The fact that people have listened in complete silence, enthralled by the topic, is testament to her skills and expertise”.
