Researching your family tree

with Margaret Hubbard

There’s nothing more fascinating than unravelling the mysteries of your family history. Who you are now is directly linked to the events, people and decisions made in your family line many generations ago.

But who are these people? What were their lives like, and what can they teach you about your identity today?

Book my family history package, and I’ll help find the answers you’ve been looking for on your ancestral history.

Your family history, fully researched and re-told

I’m fascinated by family history and genealogy.

Let me tell you the story of your own ancestral past

I help clients like you learn more about your ancestors, by taking on the historical detective work (as I like to think of it), digging as far back as the 1700s.

What do you want to learn?

This is the first thing I always ask family history and genealogy clients.

You might ask, ‘Why does this matter?’, but it’s critical to the work I research, and the reports I create for you.

There’s a huge difference between wanting to learn about ancestors, and wanting to know about the social, political and personal events that led them to make big life decisions, that still ripple through the family today.

From basic family tree outlines, to a rich and vibrant narrative, I create reports that are easy to understand, fully explained and as-complete as possible.

Not sure what you’re looking for?

Let’s have a chat. I’ll ask you a few questions about what you already know, and where your enquiry might take you, and you can decide from there. Once I know what’s at the heart of your enquiry, I shape my research and investigations around it.

Feeling stuck with your genealogy research?

Carrying out your own family research can be rewarding, but if you feel you’ve reached the end of the leads and loose ends, it can also feel frustrating.

All that hard work down the drain!

But don’t worry. It doesn’t have to be that way. Let me take over and see what else I can unearth. Your hard work can still be put to good use, and often the knot can be unpicked a little more with a fresh pair of eyes and ideas.

What if you can’t help me get any further?

This is always a possibility, and sometimes it just can’t be avoided.

I’ll keep in touch with you every step of the way to let you know how my research and investigation is going, so you won’t feel left in the dark.

Once I’m completely convinced there are no other avenues to follow, I’ll prepare a report with my findings, so you know exactly where the loose ends stop – and why.

  • Margaret helped us trace the history of our hotel

We worked with Margaret 2019/2020 to trace the history of our hotel. From the beginning Margaret offered great insight into the research process and was able to educate us about the local area, its colourful past and many characters. During the research process Margaret kept us updated with her progress, and the end result is a fascinating tour of the past combining many different sources of information. Margaret is a well-respected historian with an incredible depth of knowledge. This, combined with her flair for communication and passion for her craft, made our project an exciting, educational and hugely enjoyable experience.

  • Clearly no task is too trivial for you!

Just wanted to say a big thank you for the help you gave me with my research into my dad’s family. I didn’t think that an experienced genealogist like yourself would be interested in doing the “small stuff”. Clearly no task is too trivial for you! The information you found was clear and helpful and you responded so quickly. Thank you for giving me some of the pieces of my family history jigsaw and the impetus to find out more.

  • Our Family Tree is now a Family Treasure

I commissioned genealogist Margaret Hubbard to compile my mother's Family Tree as her 65th birthday gift from me.

Margaret did extensive research, delving into records, checking and cross-checking censuses from the mid 1800s both local and across the countries of the UK, searching old church records and visiting cemeteries. She even interviewed my 90 year old Grandmother.

The result is that my Mother's Family Tree goes back 5 generations and forward 2 but it also has a breadth which encompasses her siblings and cousins and their spouses and families.

This Family Tree is now a Family Treasure.
